How Anyim Tricked Jonathan To Sign Fraudulent Billion-Dollar Centenary Housing Deal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, unilaterally acquired the multi-billion-dollar Centenary City on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief alleged on Wednesday.

PDP’s National Vice Chairman (Southsouth zone) Dr. Cairo Ojougboh said he was ready to face the ex-SGF in court to prove his sole ownership of the controversial housing estate.

At a media briefing in his Abuja home late Monday, Ojougboh, reacting to what he described as “the show of shame”, which he said Anyim sponsored against him on Monday,  accused the former SGF of acts of desperation “to cling onto his loot and spoils of office without putting into consideration the millions of Nigerians he is depriving of the dividends of democracy”.

Calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe transactions relating to the Centenary City, Ojougboh said Anyim persuaded former President Goodluck Jonathan to sign the Centenary City documents without the ex-president reading the contents or consulting his advisers.

The Centenary City project is sitting on a land area covering over 1, 500 hectares, the size of three districts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The PDP chieftain has petitioned President Buhari, stating the facts relating to the transaction and the role played by Anyim in what he described as “a scam” perpetrated by a United Arab Emirates company, allegedly operating as a front for Anyim.

Ojougboh said: “Yes, the former president signed the papers as presented to him by the former SGF. He was not properly briefed because of vested interests.

“I can defend him; he was not part of the fraud. If Jonathan had been properly briefed, he would not have approved the project, let alone going to perform the ground breaking.

“The former President thought that the Centenary City was for the good of all Nigerians because of the centenary spirit. Unknown to him, it was the private project of the former SGF and his cohorts.

“I am calling on President Buhari now to revisit the centenary city project and he will be shocked that the project is owned by a private individual, but procured with government funds”.

According to Ojougboh, the original landlords demanded compensation from the Federal Government, “but the sponsors of the project used a private firm to pay them N1.2 billion. He asked: Where did they source that money from?”

He continued: “How can an individual still serving in the government get such a huge sum to pay compensation without government knowledge?”.

Ojougboh alleged that the money was paid into a private company’s account.

He said: “President Muhammadu Buhari should direct the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, the Directorate of Military Intelligence as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into the matter.

“The President must insist that each of these security agencies should carryout independent investigations so that the depth of the matter would be reached. I am available to offer the much I know from my independent quests on the matter”.

Ojougboh, a medical doctor, insisted that the project was a scheme used to defraud the Federal Government in taxes, stressing that the Free Zone status given to the multi-district estate was a fraud.

Ojougboh also quoted Anyim as saying that the project was worth $4 billion, adding that the process violated the rules guiding the granting of free trade zone  status by the Nigerian Export Processing Zonal Authority (NEPZA).

The PDP chieftain, who was chairman of the board of NEPZA during the project’s conception, said the board did not approve a free trade zone status for it.

“I can categorically attest to the fact emphatically and unequivocally, that the board did not approve the grant of the status of free trade zone to centenary city.

“Centenary city cannot be a free zone because it is purely a residential estate within the confinement of the Federal Capital Territory and it is implicit that those who live in the free trade zone will require re-entry visa for ingress and egress.

“I make bold to say that the Federal Government has no equity in the Centenary City project and that Senator Anyim Pius Anyim is the sole owner of the 3000 acres of land owned by the Centenary City, Abuja.

“This is against the tenets and spirit of the Public Service rules for a public servant to own such a business whilst in government,” Ojougboh said.

The party chieftain stated that his attention was first drawn to the scam by the Anti-Corruption Network, and that he had voiced his opposition to the anomaly.

“It was meant to give import duty to the owners through the back door. The consequence was to rob Nigerian masses of their land, revenue and retard the industrial growth of the nation.

“Therefore, for every one job the project creates today, it robs the nation of over 10 jobs in taxes and industrial development”. Ojougboh stated.

Ojougboh raised some questions for Anyim:

Does the law establishing the FCT allow for a free zone? Is it in the Abuja mater plan?

How did Pius Anyim obtain the N1.2 billion resettlement fees?

In whose custody is the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) of the Centenary City?

Anyim’s media aide, Mr. Sam Nwaobosi, declined comments because, according to him, the matter is in court. In a telephone conversation with reporters in Abuja yesterday, Nwaobosi said Anyim would not take up issues with Ojougboh.

Said he: “Senator Anyim has gone to court to sue him for defamation on the previous press conference and interviews that he granted in which he accused Anyim of almost all these things you said he is saying now.

“So, the matter is already in court and Senator Anyim does not wish to take up issues with him on matters that are already in court.

“Since he feels aggrieved by what Cairo (Ojougboh) has been saying and writing against him, he is pursuing a very civilised cause by going to court to plead his case.

“So whatever Ojougboh is saying, he will have an opportunity in court to explain and then plead his case.”

The former president, at the weekend, stormed Kenya’s Maasai Mara Games Reserve in two chartered planes.

One of the planes carried Kenya State security and the second was occupied by Jonathan, his wife Patience and two of their children.

He is at the reserve for a three-day tour to witness the wildebeast migration.

Jonathan was booked at the new Angama Mara Lodge at the Oloololo conservancy.

The ex-president was received by Narok Governor Samuel Tunai.

Tunai, who is also the Council of Governors tourism committee chairman, said more than 500,000 tourists from all over the world are expected to witness the spectacular crossing of wildebeest across the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Jonathan, who refused to speak with reporters on his arrival to the reserve, according to Kenya media, is the second dignitary to visit the reserve in less than a fortnight after the King of Swasiland, Mswati III. The king was booked in the same lodge six days ago.

The owner of the hotel, Nicky Fitzgerald, said this tourism peak season is different from the past as prominent personalities from across the world have been calling for bookings.

“We have received Mr Jonathan, King Mswati III, a Chinese prominent family and we are expecting other royalties,” said Ms Fitzgerald.

Ms Fitzgerald said United States (U.S.) President Barrack Obama’s visit last month was a boost for tourism in Kenya.

The trooping in of world leaders to Kenya is expected to boost the tourism sector, which is recovering from travel advisories.

Britain has withdrawn travel advisories against Kenya and America is expected to follow suit. “Starting of direct flights between Kenya and the U.S. as Obama promised would really promote trade and tourism,” said Ms Fitzgerald.

A former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, has defended the decision of his government to spend N78.3m on the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com.

Fashola, according to www.dorovibes.com, had come under fire after the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency posted a report on its website stating that N78.3m was paid to a firm, Info Access Plus Limited, for the upgrade of his website through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

However, Fashola, in a five-page letter he personally signed, admitted that the money was actually spent on his website.

He said the breakdown of the transaction was left out and that that was the cause of the confusion.

He said, 

 “As far as the website contract is concerned, yes there was a contract. It went through procurement and was approved by the government agency authorised to do so. One of the services was an upgrade quoted for N12.5m but awarded for N12m.

“There were other services that were new like a hand over countdown clock, mobile Apps for Google, for IOS and Ipad, for Microsoft and for Research in Motion (Blackberry)- which the existing website did not have, as well as the annual maintenance cost for managing the website.

“It was for all these services that the contract was issued for N78m, which the Lagos State Procurement Agency gave no objection based on the advice of the Ministry of Science and Technology, who are the government’s adviser on ICT matters.

“In publishing this contract award, which was the government tradition under my watch, the procurement agency’s website summarised it as ‘upgrade’ only without detailing the other services and this has been distorted by the agents of hate and their suspected smoking gun.”

He, however, said the contract was published in a way as to misinform members of the public.

“It is regrettable that a summary of the contract has been deliberately distorted to misinform the public,” he said.

He said the website helped him to do his job effectively when he was governor. He said till date there have been over 27 million hits on the site while thousands of videos and pictures had been uploaded on the site.

The former governor hinted of an alleged plot by some to smear his name. He said for instance, there were allegations of having extra-marital affairs and having children outside marriage.

He said the allegations were baseless. He said the only children he had outside marriage were the two children he adopted after their parents were killed in the 2012 Dana plane crash.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who is rumoured to be in a cold war with the National Leader of the All progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said he had no hand in the June 9 National Assembly elections in which the leadership of the APC lost out.

He said he was outside the country until the morning of the election.

“As far as my alleged involvement in the National Assembly elections are concerned, they remain only the products of imagination of those who made the allegations. I was out of the country at the material time and returned only in the early hours of that morning to Abuja and from there proceeded to Lagos,” he said.

Fashola, while reacting to recent bashings by the Peoples Democratic Party over the over N419bn debt he left behind, noted that all the loans taken by the state were approved by the House of Assembly.

He said the debts were being serviced, adding that the debt profile of the state had not affected it negatively.

Fashola also berated human rights group, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, for dragging him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari not to give him a political appointment.

He said he did not care if he was given a political appointment or not as he had served Lagos State for over 12 years

He told the people of Lagos to expect more allegations soon as he had been told that several people had been given money to assassinate his character.

He said, “I expect that there may be more distorted allegations without evidence for reasons that remain in the realm of speculation because I have been informed reliably that large amounts of money are being paid to some of these agents to bear false witness.

“I cannot conclude without responding to the crusade of CACOL and their ilk seeking my prosecution on allegations that have no proof and writing pre-emptive letters to the Presidency.

“In case they are unaware, I am not looking for a job. I expect them to know that allegations of wrongdoing are not resolved without evidence, neither are they resolved in press conferences.”

While taking an indirect swipe at those leaking information about his deeds in office, the former governor said, “For those who still wish to remain in the mud, they should look in the mirror. For those who wish to throw mud at me, they should look at their own hands.”

Man Bags Life Jail For Impregnating Daughter

A North Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole after being found guilty of sexually abusing several children and impregnating his underage daughter.

Danny Richard Minor, 40, of The Colony, was convicted Thursday on five counts of child sex abuse. 

Prosecutors said that, from 2002 to 2009 while living in Plano, north of Dallas, Minor molested two of his own children as well as an unrelated child.

One of the victims came forward about the abuse in 2009, however the investigation was stalled due to 'conflicting statements', according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office.

Minor then left Plano and moved 20 miles west to The Colony. However the abuse continued at the new home.

Then, in June 2014, a second child came forward. The statement given by the child matched up with the information given by the first child in 2009.

Minor was arrested and a search warrant was obtained for his DNA. 

'A paternity test confirmed that Minor is the biological father of his daughter's child,' Collin County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Bill Dobiyanski said, according to CBS DFW

On Thursday last week, he was found guilty of three counts of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child and two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. 

The continuous sexual abuse charged involve children under 14 years of age 

On Friday last week, the jury sentenced Minor to life confinement without the possibility of parole on each count of continuous sexual abuse of a young child and life confinement on each count of aggravated sexual assault of a child. 

Requests for access to Minor's court documents have not yet been granted, according to The Houston Chronicle.

It is unclear exactly how old his daughter and her baby are.

Godfrey Baguma has become a proud father of eight children after his wife Kate Namanda, 30, delivered a healthy baby girl. The couple now have six children together, while two others are kids from Baguma’s first unsuccessful marriage.

The man, who suffers from an extremely rare, unknown disease, won his title of the ugliest country’s man after he took part in the contest to make money for his family. “In 2002, I was mending shoes, when some people approached me and said they had an event at which they wanted me to be a chief guest.  

They took my pictures and a few days later, I saw my picture in the newspapers where I had declared myself the ugliest man alive. I was shocked and angry at the same time because I had not said so. They also told me that as a cobbler, I could not make enough money to sustain my family.

They asked me to participate in a contest, saying I would make more money since I would be a tourist attraction. I agreed, and indeed I won. That is how I got the nickname, Ssebabi, which means the ugliest of them all. Today, I feel good, about it because it is an honour.”

In June 2012, four young University of Port Harcourt students (all in their early 20s) namely Ugonna, Ilyod, Tekana and Chidiaka, were tortured and burnt alive by indigenes of Aluu community, in Rivers State in hazy circumstances.

According to accounts, five students went to the community to carry some sort of cult activity when they were accosted and arrested at around 5.30am by vigilante group in the community that has a recent history of armed robberies.

One of the five escaped, while the four others were taken before the community leaders who passed judgment on them, after which they were tortured and burnt to death.

These guys-identified as Ugonna, Chidiaka and Llyod-are said to be 200 level students of UniPort who went to steal in the community in the wee hours of the morning, but met their water loo when somehow, the members of the community alerted each and were able to apprehend them before they could escape.

It is reported that during the operation, a villager was shot, and this further angered members of the community leading to the eventual untimely death of the alleged robbers.

The alleged robbers after they were caught, were beaten-as depicted in the picture above-then set ablaze, before the police could intervene.

At this point, I must say,that the idea of jungle justice is completely wrong and unacceptable. Many people have been victims from mistaken identity, and their lives wasted for no reason.

Even more sad is the fact that people were watching while these guys were beaten to death. Why not just apprehend them and hand them over to the appropriate authorities???A lot of Nigerian sure need re-orientation.

According to him, The Students involved are Cultists, They went to Attack Someone, they were about 5 in number, , so on their way out, A girl saw them and screamed, these alerted people and they attacked them.. One of them escaped and the remaining 4 were caught with Weapons and beaten by a man [Though they were already helpless and weak after being attacked by the crowd] , Hitting them Mercilessly and bringing them to a slow and painful death.. The man later Got Fuel and poured it in their mouth and lit it., Burning one student!, The man was stopped with the arrival of the police so he couldn’t burn the rest, they were later taken to the mortuary where the families of the deceased Came to claim the corpse…

The news about stealing of phones, laptops, e.t.c were all Lies, probably in a bid to stall investigations.. Since they said they were mobbed!!..

 A pensioner died after being found with ammonia burns having been left in her own urine for eight days, it has been claimed.

Doctors found 69-year-old Margot Green in agony after she arrived at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Some

rset, with burns 'all over her body'.  

She died four days later after developing an infection. 

Her devastated daughter Corrin Garland has hit out at a care company tasked with visiting Ms Green twice daily, claiming the pensioner had not been showered for three weeks.

Mrs Garland, of Ilminster, Somerset, found urine burns on the 'back, legs and tummy' of her frail mother, who had been rushed to hospital after pressing her emergency alarm. 

The 43-year-old said she found her mother's bed covered in urine and faeces and has complained to Taunton-based Way Ahead Care.

Workers from the company provided two half-hour care visits a day at a cost of £35 a week. 

Mrs Garland said: 'When I saw the burns all over my mum's body, I was horrified.

'Doctors told me she had been lying in her own urine for eight days and that she was in a lot of pain.

'It's absolutely disgraceful that four different carers saw my mum during that time, and not one of them washed her or changed her bed.

'It haunts me to think of mum in her final days, lying in those conditions and too proud to complain.

'She paid for those carers so she could be as comfortable as possible, but they not only neglected her but took away her dignity.'

Ms Green, a former landlady, had suffered with bronchiectasis - a condition that left her lungs infected and filled with fluid - for six years and struggled to breathe.

Mrs Garland got a call on July 10 to say her mother had pressed her emergency alarm and had been rushed to Musgrove Park Hospital.

She said: 'When I got to her bedside, she rolled over and showed me the horrific burns.

'Her back, legs and tummy were all covered in raw, urine burns.

'It was so distressing to see her like that, I couldn't imagine the pain she was in.'

Mrs Garland then went back to her mother's house to collect some belongings, and was horrified to discover the entire house stank of sewage.

She said: 'As soon as I opened the door I was hit with the smell of bodily fluids. It nearly made me sick it was so strong.

'And when I saw where she had been sleeping, I was utterly shocked.

'The mattress topper was a mess and covered in faeces and urine.'

Immediately, she contacted Way Ahead Care to make a complaint and the Care Quality Commission agreed to look into the case.

She said: 'Mum was too poorly to have further tests done, so they couldn't find out where the infection had started.

'It was then that doctors confirmed she had been left in a urine soaked bed for eight days.

'They said either she had caught a chest infection from breathing in ammonia for so long, or the urine had got into her blood.

'I was devastated.'

She added: 'My mum was a very proud person and it kills me to think of her in those final moments.

'She apologised to me and said she didn't want me seeing her like that.

'What little dignity she had left was taken away.'

She is now awaiting the autopsy results to confirm where the infection started.

Richard Smith, company director for Way Ahead Care said: 'We are aware of the complaint and it has been raised with the local authority.

'It's a very complex care package and there were a number of different agencies involved in the package.

'We are cooperating with the investigation by the local authority.'

Somerset County Council, which commissioned the pensioner's care programme, said that it was working with the family and the care provider to determine what happened.
