Saraki: APC Shortlists New Candidates For Replacement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly penned down names for likely replacements for Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is currently standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over charges of false declaration of assets leveled against him.

According to National Mirror reports, the embattled National Assembly leader is being pressured from several quarters to resign as Senate President on moral grounds pending the conclusion of his trial which has been adjourned until October 21, 2015, while reports have emerged alleging that the APC is planning on moving to have Saraki impeached from office.

It was gathered that the APC is already considering several top ranking senators to replace Saraki in the event that he resigns or gets impeached.

According to the report, the leadership of the APC have already shortlisted former minority leader in the 7th Senate and former governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume and the wife of the national leader of the party, Senator Remi Tinubu  as well as two unnamed senators from the South-West zone.

Several sources say the APC has favoured the South West zone for Saraki’s proposed replacement as the search has been limited to the zone, keeping out the South-East and South-South as there is no APC senators from these zones.
